What are cookies?
A cookie is a text file that stores information about your visit to the website. A cookie can, i.e. contain login information, what you had in your shopping cart when you closed the tab or settings on the website. Most websites use cookies because they are often used in basic functions, but you can of course choose to block or remove cookies.
Different types of cookies
There are two different types of cookies: temporary and permanent. Temporary cookies (also called session cookies) disappear when you close the browser. They contain only temporary information that is not stored.
Permanent cookies are saved as a text file on your computer and used to save information when you visit various websites. These cookies should facilitate your use by i.e. remembering login information or making your visit more exciting by displaying advertising adapted to your searches.
Can cookies contain viruses?
No, cookies do not contain viruses. The most common browsers today only allow a certain number of saved cookies, which means that you also do not risk running out of memory on the hard drive.
How do I say no to cookies?
You can turn off cookie storage in your browser settings. In some browsers, you can choose to block permanent cookies but still allow temporary cookies. Without cookie storage, however, you will not be able to use certain features and services on websites. In your browsers help function, you will find information on how to change the settings for cookies. In your browser settings, you can also delete cookies from your hard drive.
